What you need to know about EMV Chip Cards

You can avoid liability for card fraud with EMV™-enabled terminals.

Credit card fraud losses, which topped $10 billion in 2014, typically are the responsibility of the card issuer. As of October 1, 2015, fraudulent chip card transactions on non-EMV compliant terminals result in the liability shifting to merchants. By embracing EMV technology, you’ll be protecting your business from the liability and your customers will feel better than ever about doing business with you.

EMV improves payment security by making it harder to use cards fraudulently or even duplicate them

EMV (Europay, Mastercard®, and Visa®), chip cards have small microchips embedded in them. Instead of a cashier swiping a credit or debit card, the customer inserts the card into an EMV slot or taps the card on your sales terminal. The card never leaves your customer’s possession, adding more security to in-store transactions. In order to switch over to EMV processing, you will need to make some hardware changes. Payment Solutions

What is the difference between Dezba and a bank?

It is no secret that banks handle billions of financial transactions for the world each and every day. However, what many merchants don’t realize is that the merchant services that many banks offer are actually not their own. So, if the banks don’t control this then who does provide these financial services? The difference is that a merchant account with an Independent Sales Office (ISO), like Dezba, offers a comprehensive list of benefits that generally cannot be found with a bank.

What are the benefits of choosing Dezba over a bank?

Banks are generally given a “cookie cutter” program that they offer their customers so it’s more like a “one size fits all” package. We look at all the various factors involved with how each merchant processes transactions and types of clientele in order to make sure that you are qualifying for the lowest possible costs for those transactions. Dezba is generally much more cost effective than bank merchant service programs. There are no application or start up fees and we pride ourselves in personalized payment processing solutions.

What are the costs for your processing and other services?

Because each of our customers has unique needs, our processing services are customized according to the specifics of their business. Pricing is based on factors such as type of industry, method in which payments are accepted, card types accepted and a number of other variables.

I want to begin accepting payments with credit cards. What kind of hardware do I need?

Many factors determine the kind of hardware you will need, including: type of merchant account you want to establish (ecommerce, retail or direct market), the type of industry you’re in, how many transactioins you have a day, type of transactions you’ll be processing, how many locations your business has, etc. Once we have all of this information, we will be better able to advise you on the type of equipment you’ll need to be able to process credit cards.

I already have a credit card terminal; can I just reprogram it to work with Dezba?

In many cases, you may be able to use the equipment you already own.

As a merchant, what types of credit cards can I accept?

Most merchant terminals support MC, Visa, American Express, Discover, Diners Club/Carte Blanche and JCB cards. Although we can support all credit card types, we only have the ability to process settlement (payment to merchants) for MC, Visa, DC/CB, Discover and JCB. When processing occurs, each transaction must be authorized, the data must be captured and settlement/payment made back to the merchant.

How long does it take to set up a merchant account?

The time it takes to establish a merchant account depends on several factors including; completeness of the application submitted, accuracy of the information provided and any required additional paperwork. After your application has been approved, it usually takes just a few days to establish the actual account and to arrange for any required training.

How can I view my account information?

Dezba offers several online and offline tools to access information about your merchant account. With these tools you can view, download and import account information such as transaction activity, deposits, funding, chargebacks, retrievals and statement information.

What are interchange fees?

Interchange fees are transactioin-related costs that the processor pays to the issuer of the card as compensation. These fees are established by MC and Visa and are based upon how a transaction takes place and in what type of industry.
